James Dunlop Junior

Young James was the son of the Rev James Dunlop, minister of the United Free Church of Kilmaronock. The family lived at the manse on the main street in Gartocharn. His mother, Elizabeth Gow, owned the Clachan Inn in Drymen.
The diary describes his daily activities, wildlife, gardening, meeting local folk, fishing and travelling by train and boat. Caldarvan Station, the closest, was a mere two miles distance from the Manse, a decade or two before the introduction of motor cars. A cold winter in 1884/85 lead to many curling matches and skating.
He comments on national politics. He attended church regularly but there is no mention of him attending school. Why not have a read?
